Personal Background
At age 11 I remember my father greeting some Jehovah’s Witnesses at our door saying, “If I thought it would do me any good to kneel down in front of the nearest telephone pole and pray, I would. But I don’t.” This characterizes how my early religious beliefs were formed. Later I attended a science and technology university and graduated in aerospace engineering. Politically I was a lifelong Republican tolerating the party’s religious stance and embracing the other conservative values. I finally had enough and voted for John Kerry in the last election.
Atheistic Views
Religion is but one of many types of organizations that influence people. Organizations such as, governments, associations, unions, corporations and charities also provide societal influences. Many good values, morals beliefs, etc. have come from religion and other organizations. All types of organizations have also have done harm at times.
I see religion and the belief in God as unique and dangerous compared to other organizations. Religion has one inherent characteristic that is unique. It requires blind faith.
With blind faith reason, logic, data and science can be ignored. If an organization is based on blind faith, it will be threatened by reason, logic, data and science.
Of all the types of organizations government and religion are the most powerful; therefore, the combination of religion, with its inherent blind faith beliefs, and government, with its power, is very scary.

You will find that my style is short and to the point. You won’t find lengthy discussions of the bible or esoteric viewpoints. I am more likely to call something the load of crap it is.
